Behind the lens.

My names Caroline Mclaren,  I'm 36 years old and live in the UK.  I've had quite a few hobbies through the years, but nothing gained my interest quite like photography.  It's rewarding and fulfilling.  For me, it's the best way to express my creativity.

It all started back in the eighties when I adopted my Dads Compact Disc camera, remember those?  Looking back it was a terrible little camera, but it didn't dampen my love for taking pictures.  Then I moved on(or rather stepped back a few years camera wise) to an old Praktica MTL5 SLR, again, another one I accquired from my Dad.  That's when I started to understand lighting, shutter speeds etc., I couldn't fault it, a joy to use, and the print quality was really very good.  Many a happy family album was filled because of the MTL5.   Several rolls of film later, the digital age was born, but it wasn't until 2006 that I aquired my first digital camera.  My love for photography took off in a big way.

So, here we are in the wonderful world of digital and in my fortunate hands was my very first DSLR, a Canon 300d.  Magical.  My first (obessive) photographic port of call was for capturing the smaller things in life, and letting others see the bigger picture.  Macro!  So armed with my 18-55mm kit lens and my trusty macro filters, I shot anything and everything,  from bubbles to bugs, nothing was safe.  Once I'd reached the limits of macro filters, there was only one thing for it, an upgrade to a macro lens, so I splurged on a Sigma 105mm.  Worth every penny!.

I'm now the proud owner of a Canon 30d, due to the failure of the 300d's shutter, (life without a lens would be unimaginable!)   Macro has taken a back seat for a while whilst I venture into the realms of landscape photography, I've found it to be quite challenging, so many things to consider before taking a shot, but I'm getting there.  I'm using my 18mm-55mm kit lens, which isn't of the greatest of quality, terrible CA (Chromatic Aberration), so to compensate, I use slightly heavier processing, or turn them into mono shots.  It's only a pipe dream for now, but a decent 18mm-55mm or 10-20mm lens are on the wish list.

All of my images have had some manipulation of some description, but nothing is artifically added to fool the viewer into thinking it's genuine.  What you see is what I saw through the lens.  I may add textures from time to time, sharpening, colour enhancement, cropping etc.,  When I think an image warrants an artistic feel, or there's just no hope for it as is, I'll deploy my creative side to (hopefully) bring it too life, but nothing too extreme.  The software used is CS3, I can highly recommend it, but any photoshop software is a great way to dabble with your images.

So without further ado, I would be delighted if you would take the time to have a look at my work.  I profess to be nothing more than a very keen amateur photographer, who enjoys sharing her work with others.   Lastly, but certainly not least, thanks to all of you who have supported me and my work over these last few months.  I appreciate it!

Best Wishes

Caz
